When we arrived on a Thursday Essence Fest was having a concert in the park.... If you know anything about New Orleans HEAT! BAYBEE! it was HOT HOT AND MORE HOT!!! I think it was so hot a humid that my kimar started to sweat... lol it was sooo many people that we were ready to go as soon as we got there.... but alhamdullilah it was a great experience.
It was such a great experience being at the Essence Festival! Us being The Traveling Muslimahs, as soon as we stepped out the car we started to received so many compliments, stares and pictures being taken of us! we were bombarded with this and started to feel like we were CELEBRITIES! lol Epic Moments at the Essence Fest!
1.Essence Festival was Epic! we sat and listen to Representative Ilhan Omar speak on the political issues that we face in a Trump administration. After she was done speaking The Traveling Muslimahs rushed to see if we could meet her backstage and was met with security who wouldn't let us enter! because The Traveling Muslimahs we persistent and wouldn't take no for an answer, one of the backstage photographers got the backstage manager to let us in the back to meet Ilhan! we were estatic and Ilhan was so warm and friendly. Epic Essence Fest moment.
2. New Orleans Essence Festival July 4-7 2019 The Traveling Muslimahs TakeOver!!!
One Great and Important thing about the Traveling Muslimahs, is that we PRAY WHEREVER WE ARE! Being Muslimahs is not just what we wear but our actions and how we are when we think no one is looking! the fun gets put on hold when PRAYER is in! Epic Essence Fest Moments.
3. We just finished praying in a quiet corner of the convention center. As we were walking closer to where the activities were going on, one of the members yelled look there goes Angela Simmons ( Rev Runs Daughter from Run DMC,). All I could see is Angelas peoples (staff) rushing her to the exit and trying to DODGE the crowed. We came rushing yelling we just want a picture! lol Angelas peoples were not having that but Angela looked at us and saw us coordinated so she stopped ( against her staffs orders) and said are y'all a group? we screamed with excitement and said YES we are The Traveling Muslimahs!!! and she said ok i'll take the picture with you all! we felt so special.
