Philly Traveling Muslimahs are going to explore the top 20 biggest masjid in the world! Here are the list starting with number 20......

#20 Al-Aqsa Masjid, Jerusalem

Al-Aqsa Masjid is known to be the 3rd holiest Masjid in the world due the story of the prophet Muhammad ( SAW) Night Journey from Mecca to Al-Aqsa. Also before Allah revealed the Change in direction for prayer. The Prophet Muhammad as well as other Muslims prayed towards Masjid Al-Aqsa. 

#19 Masjid E Tooba, Karachi Pakistan

Masjid E Tooba Is locally known as the Gol Masjid which was build in 1969. This Masjid is built with pure white marble and claims to have the single largest dome in the world. the dome is about 236 ft in diameter. the Masjid hold a capacity of 5000 people and is a major tourist attraction!

#18 Al Fatih Masjid Bahrain

This masjid is the largest masjid in Bahrain and holds up to 7000 worshippers. Al Fateh is located very close to Bahrains Palace the residence of King Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifah, who is he King of Bahrain.

#17 Sultan Ahmed Masjid, Istanbul Turkey

This Masjid was built between 1609 and 1616. Sultan Ahmed Masjid is most known as the blue masjid due to its blue tiles adorning the interior wall of the Masjid. The Masjid comprise of a tomb of the founder, a madrassa and a hospice as well as a place of worship.

#16 Grozny Central Dome Masjid,Grozny

This Masjid is located in Grozny which is the capital of Chechnya. Chechnya is bordered by Russia and is a prodominately muslim country. This Masjid is modeled after the blue masjid in Instanbul Turkey and can hold up to 10,000 believers. Grozny Central Masjid is one of the largest Masjids in Europe.

This Masjid was build in 2003 as a donation from thier community. it holds up to 10,000 worshipperand is about 5.2 acres. It took about 5 million pounds to build.

#13 Masjid Negara, Malaysia

This Masjid is located in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia and it is the national masjid of Malaysia. It has a capacity of 15,000 muslims and is placed amongst 13 acre of an amazing garden. this masjid was built in 1965. Its most breath taking feature is its 73-meter high minaret and an 18 pointed star concrete main roof.

#12 Id Kah Masjid, China  

This Masjid is located in Kashgar, Xinjiang China. It can accommodate up to 20,000 worshippers. Id Kah Masjid was build in 1442 and covers 16,800 square meters.

#11 Sultan Qaboos Masjid, Oman

This Masjid was named after the ruler Sultan Taboos who had a competition for the design of the masjid. After the design was chosen they started building the Masjid in 1995 and it took 6 years and 4 months to complete. 

#10 Baitul Makarram Masjid, Bangladesh

Baitul Makarram was built in 1960 in the center of Dhaka which is the capital of Bangladesh. The masjid has a capacity of 30,000 worshippers but is always getting over crowded during the month of Ramadan, therefore the government added an extension that allows a capacity of 10,000 more worshippers.

#9 Jama Masjid, Delhi India

Jama Masjid was commissioned by Mughala Emperor Shah Jahan who also built the Taj Mahal. This masjid was build in 1656 AD as is the largest masjid in India and the 9th largest in the world. The courtyard alone can hold up to 25,000 people alone.

#8. Sheik Zayed Masjid, Abu Dhabi UAE

This masjid is named after the founder and president of the United Arab Emerites. Sheik Zayed Masjid is also known as the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. Sheik Zayed like most founders is buried within the masjid. The Grand Mosque officially opened during the month of Ramadan on the Islamic Calendar.

#7. Badshahi Masjid, Lahore, Pakistan

The Badshahi Masjid is also known in english as the Emperors Mosque. This Masjid is the second largest masjid in Pakistan but the 7ths largest in the world. Its a major tourist attraction in Pakistan and holds up to 110,000 people. Badshahi Masjid used to be the largestest in the world for 313 years from the year  1673-1986. It was outsized by the completion of the Faisal Masjid in Islamabad Pakistan in 1986.

Faisal Masjid is the largest Masjid in Pakistan and was the largest in the world from 1986-1993. It was outsized by the completion of the Hassan II Masjid in Casablanca 

#5 Hassan II Masjid, Casablanca Morocco

Hassan II Masjid is the largest Masjid in Morocco. It was designed by a French architect and it stands on a promontory overlooking the Atlantic. The Atlantic Ocean can be seen through a glass floor inside the masque that can hold up to 25,000 worshippers. Hassan II Masjid has adjoining grounds that can hold an additional 80,000 believers which give it a total capacity of 105,000 people! it also has the worlds tallest minarets which range at 689 ft tall.

#4 Istiqlal Masjid, Jakarta Indonesia

Masjid Istiqlal is the Largest Masjid in Jakarta Indonesia which is also the largest masjid in SouthEast Asia. This Masjid was built in commemoration of the independence of Indonesia and was also said to be built in gratitude of Allahs blessing. Hints the name Istiqlal which means independance in arabic.

#3 Imam Reza Masjid, Mashhad Iran

Imam Reza Masjid is the third largest masjid in the world and the largest Masjid in Mashhad, Iran . Within the masjids complex is a museum, library, four seminaries, a cemetery, the Razavi University of Islamic Science, a dining hall for pilgrims, vast prayer hall, and a host of other buildings. 

#2 Al-Masjid Al-Nabawi, Medina Saudi Arabia

Al Masjid Al Nabawi also known as The Prophets Mosque which is located in Medina. This Masjid is the second largest masjid in the world as well as the second largest masjid in Saudi Arabia. The Prophet Muhammad ( Salalahu alaihi wa salam) the last and final messenger of God is barried within the masjid. It is considered to be the second holiest masjid in the world and as a result of that hundreds of thousands of muslims visit the masjid all year around and the number increases during Hajj season.

#1 Masjid Al-Haram, Mecca Saudi Arabia

Masjid Al-Haram is the largest masjid in the world that hold a capacity of 4 million muslims and counting. This is the holiest Masjid in the world due to it being the direction muslims pray toward as well as perform the obligatory pilgramage which is known as Hajj. This holy masjid is the gate keeper of the Kaaba that is believed to be first built by the first man created by Allah who is Adam (AS). The current structure covers 4,008,020 square meters ( 990.40 acres).
